Design & Planning Engineer

Job Description

Responsible for performing technical activities involving access transmission network design, traffic engineering, zoning analysis, path planning, site and LOS survey analyses, swapping risk control and associated communications environments to meet customer telecommunications requirements.


Major duties and responsibilities: 

  • Analyze, plan and release engineering work using planning tools and available databases to support modernization of the mobile network. This shall include but not limited to capacity planning, traffic engineering and swap of existing equipment.
  • Microwave design using Pathloss (or else) design tools used for terrain and Fresnel analysis of prospective sites.
  • Field engineering surveys and LOS verification to confirm viability of prospective selected locations.
  • Sites candidate recons, evaluation, approvals, and auditing to determine suitability and availability for collocation etc.
  • Provision of technical support for zoning hearings and inter-modulation studies when required or necessary.
  • Inspection, evaluation and approval of engineering and construction drawings to confirm they meet specifications and design requirements.
  • Provide material forecasting and support Deployment on scope clarification.
  • Provide customers with voice/data network technical support including problem escalation resolution and takes responsibility for customer satisfaction with equipment and servicing.
  • Work closely with service bidding team for RFP response and costing analysis.
  • Work closely with Product Verification teams, R&D, Project Management, Customer Support, Sales & Marketing, and third-party vendors to coordinate technical solutions.

Job Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical, Telecom Engineering and Computer science, or other Technical field or equivalent education and experience.
  • At least 5 years’ relevant experience in Telecommunications industry.
  • Experience in Mobile transmission planning via various transmission medium, familiar with Carrier Ethernet network.
  • Familiar with Microwave Network Planning and with the design tool Path loss, Net act, Mentum ellipse, Map info, Google earth.
  • Familiar with engineering implementation for microwave network, implementation characteristics and risks in a microwave project.
  • Familiar with the ITU Recommendations for Microwave Communications. 
  • Fluent in English as working language (both spoken & written).
  • Good communications and organizational skills with supervisors and customers.
  • Able to work under pressure and good team spirit.
