More capacity without additional spectrum, fiber, or operational complexity.
CAPACITY
LINK DISTANCE
WIND RESILIENCE
As demand for high-speed broadband continues to grow in rural communities, WISPs face increasing pressure to expand network capacity quickly, cost-effectively, and without adding operational complexity. Fybercom needed a way to scale performance across a long-distance rural link while maintaining reliable service in challenging environmental conditions—without access to additional spectrum or viable fiber alternatives.
"What stood out most was how easily we were able to expand capacity without adding complexity to our network. The deployment was straightforward, performance has been consistently strong, and the solution has given us the headroom we need to support growing subscriber demand while maintaining a high-quality customer experience."
Vince Calkins, CTO, Fybercom
Limited Spectrum | Capacity Constraints | Long-Distance Rural Connectivity
Fybercom, a regional wireless ISP serving rural communities, needed to rapidly expand broadband capacity to meet growing subscriber demand and maintain a strong customer experience. However, its existing 11 GHz link was already operating at full capacity, no additional licensed spectrum was available, and the long rural path had to remain stable in harsh weather conditions.
At the same time, Fybercom needed a solution that could quickly increase capacity without adding operational complexity or requiring costly infrastructure expansion.
Existing 11 GHz link operating at full capacity
No additional licensed spectrum available
Growing demand for higher-capacity broadband services
Long-distance rural link requiring stable performance in harsh weather
Fiber extension was not a viable option
With limited expansion options, Fybercom needed a solution that could significantly increase capacity while keeping deployment and operations simple and efficient.
High Tx Power E-band | Increased Capacity | Extended Reach | Stable Performance
To address these challenges, Fybercom deployed Ceragon's IP-50EXP in a 1+0 configuration with a 3 ft. antenna alongside its existing 11 GHz microwave link over a 13.8-mile path. Using OSPF routing, the network automatically selects the optimal path, enabling seamless traffic management while significantly increasing available capacity. The solution was quickly integrated into the existing network, enabling rapid capacity expansion with minimal operational disruption.
The solution included:
Deployed IP-50EXP in parallel to existing 11 GHz microwave link using OSPF for automatic path selection
Rapidly expand capacity without requiring additional spectrum
Deploy quickly with minimal operational disruption
Lower operational overhead through simple integration
Deliver reliable high-throughput connectivity across long distances
Improve customer experience with more consistent service
Faster Capacity Expansion | Lower Operational Burden | Better Subscriber Experience
The deployment enabled Fybercom to quickly relieve network congestion, improve service quality for subscribers, and expand capacity without increasing operational burden.
These results enabled Fybercom to quickly expand capacity, improve subscriber experience, and support future growth, while keeping deployment simple and operations efficient, even in challenging rural conditions.
13.8-mile (22.2 km) link distance
Typical throughput of 9.1–9.9 Gbps
Stable RSSI levels of -36 to -39 dBm
Sustained performance during rain events (0.25 inches and above)
Reliable operation in 40–50 mph wind conditions
